City Hall
Olmos Park City Council has approved the recommendation of the
City Hall Building Committee that Guido Brothers Construction be
selected as the contractor for the new city hall/police department
and fire station project. Contract negotiations have begun with
Guido Brothers and, pending a successful outcome,
ground-breaking at the new city hall site should take place in
November.
The selection of a contractor follows council approval in April of the
Building Committee's recommended City Hall design and revisions
made in August to incorporate more Spanish/mission style
elements found throughout the city including stucco and barrel tile.
You can review the revised design here.
The new city hall/police department building will be constructed on
property the city purchased at 200 Primera, directly across the street
from the current city hall. The new fire station will be built on the
current city hall site.
City Council has approved the transfer of $1.3 million in funds to pay
for construction costs, related fees, and furnishings. This transfer
will enable the city to avoid any indebtedness to the pay for the
hall/police department structure.
The Building Committee is currently working on an exterior design
proposal for the new fire department, and construction is expected
to begin once the city hall facility is completed in late 2009.
Members of the Building Committee are Wade Giddens, Mark
Middleman, Steve McKenna, Otis Parchman, and Don Philbin. The
committee is chaired by Councilman Joe Izbrand and also includes
representation from City Manager Amy Buckert, and Thom Robey
and Alan Neff of Robey Architecture Inc., the architectural firm
selected for the new city hall.
Additional research that was undertaken in identifying the city's
space needs and potential locations for a new facility can be
reviewed below:
Site Options
The Building Committee developed and reviewed several
proposals on possible land and space utilization, from which its
initial recommendations were based. You can review those options
here.
2007 Assessment
Earlier this year, the architect hired to design the new City Hall
assessed the space needs for the new facility with city staff. You
can review that information here.
City Hall Tour
On May 23, 2007 City Council held a town hall meeting to brief the
residents of Olmos Park on the condition of the current city hall and
the need for a new facility. You can review a modified slide
presentation and tour of the current building by clicking here.
Questions and Answers
Following the town hall meeting, a document was developed to help
provide answers to general questions about a new facility. You can
review that information here.
1999 Study
In 1999, City Council conducted a study of facility needs and
possible locations for City Hall. You can review that study by clicking
